Favourite Assignment? Why?

My favourite assignment was out Buried Life project.  I loved this project because it allowed us to learn lots about ourselves as people and how we see the world.  This project also allowed us to really get to know our class mates.  

Least Favourite Assignment? Why?

My least favourite assignment would have to be the twitter fiction project.  This project took me forever to complete.  It takes a lot of work. It also takes a lot of time that I didn't have to give to the project unfortunately.  

Friday Reading?

I loved the Friday reading! I read a lot of amazing books this year all thanks to the Friday reading periods.  Having the class right before lunch was the perfect time to have the Friday reading because it allowed a bit of calmness in the middle of our hectic days.  

Monday Written Reflection?

Monday written reflection was a good idea but it was sometimes difficult to do. Finding enough stuff to write about the fill the minimum word capacity without re-writing the story line. I would recommend making lots of observations in your reading to make this post easier.   


The Writer's Notebook?

The infamous writer's notebook.  What can I say about it? I lost my notebook with the second month of the course.... I think that i might have left it in Minneapolis when I went earlier in the semester.  I was still able to do the daily creates but it wasn't as fun because I had to do them on loose paper.  


Blogging?

I loved the blogging aspect of the course. Although it was hard to post all of the personal additions.  For future students I would recommend actually doing the personal additions so that they are up to date.

Tweeting?

I wasn't able to tweet as much as I would have liked to in the course because I am a little technologically challenged.  My bad luck with technology led to my twitter account not allowing me access or letting me tweet anything.

The integration of technology into the course?

Having the technology element in the course was both fun and challenging.  I personally have some challenges when it comes to technology so this course allowed me to get over those issues before I get into the real world and really struggle.  It was challenging because if something was due and the computers or something wasn't working we were for lack of a better term... up the creek without a paddle.  
What you learned about yourself as a reader, writer, and thinker, creator?

I learned that I am a very hands on learner.  I also learned that as a writer I have limits that I like to stay within and leaving them is very hard for me to do.  As for the thinker aspect I learned that I really over think somethings,,,,, perhaps way more then I should.  As a creator sometimes I like to go over the top and sometimes I like to keep it nice and simple.  
Comments/Compliments/Constructive criticism for Ms. McLauchlan about the course. 

Ms. McLauchlan I really enjoyed the course. I came into the course hearing all about it from my older Sister, Ana. I began the semester expecting something completely different from what we actually did. I expected it to be more of a classic write this form write that form course.  I am extremely happy to say that it is not that type of course and I enjoyed it a lot more then i expected to. 


Advice for future CW students?

KEEP YOUR BLOG UP TO DATE!!! DO the daily creates and post them on your blog.  Make personal additions.... even if it is about the pasta you had for dinner last night (sorry inside joke with Kaitlyn).  And ask for help if you need it, even if it is outside of the course Ms McLauchlan is an excellent person to go to for computer help, or any type of help for that matter.  Talk to your fellow class mates even if they aren't the type of people you normally talk to or hang out with, it will help you come up with some crazy ideas for written pieces.  

Buried Life... Now What?

Since I started my buried life project I have learnt that I really like to travel and spend time with my family.  I think these are thing that come up a lot on my list. I think that these come up a lot because my family doesnt live in Winnipeg so I don't get to see them a lot.  The travel aspect comes up because I have always traveled lots.  My parents are both in the military so they travel a lot for work.  when my sister and I were younger we would either travel to stay with a relative while they were away or one of our relatives would come and stay with us here in Winnipeg.  Now that I have started my buried life list and accomplished two items on my list i plan on keeping my Instagram account for it up and running.  I also plan on adding more things to my list.  My hope is that while accomplishing things on my list I can help people accomplish things on their list.  I would really like to actually accomplish everything on my list and for every item i complete post a picture of me doing it on my Instagram account so that people who follow the account can keep up to date with where I am on my list.  The next list item I would like to accomplish is to help my mom see my grandma again.  I am currently starting to save my money so that I can buy plane tickets for my mom to go t Halifax to see my grandma next summer.  I hope that I can afford the plane tickets in time for her to go.

My Boyfriend Rocks!

Last night my boyfriend Tony came to my final dance recital.  What makes this even better is the fact that he came on the night of his 18th birthday.

Exams

This week is our provincial English Exams and I am scared because the exam seems really hard! I hope I do well on it because I need a good English mark to keep my scholarship and keep my place in the education program at the University of Winnipeg!

my mom took me driving this weekend and i drove into my fence..... needless to say i dont think i am getting my licence anytime soon 

Scholarship!

This morning I was checking my mail and I saw that I had a letter from the University of Winnipeg.  Inside it told me that I received an university entrance scholarship! I am so excited everything is falling into place now!

AMAZING NEWS!!

Last night I found out that I got accepted into the University of Winnipeg's education program! I am so excited to be starting this new chapter of my life! I am also a little scared because university seems a lot harder then high school.  I know though that if I really focus and set my mind to it I can get through it and see the program all the way to the end!

Sushi!!!

Today I had a doctors appointment so i left school at lunch time.  After my appointment my sister went out on a sushi date before going to dance for the night.

Tattoo

My sister and I decided that this november we would get matching tattoos.  we are getting small hearts on our feet to symbolize sisters and our passions for dance.

Free time?

This week is the second week of my dance festival. This is the longest competition we do all year. This competition is over two weeks we compete all of our dances for the last time this year. This competition takes over our life. In between  teaching, and taking our own classes we also have to find time to sub other people's classes. On top of all of that we have to be at the competition to put our students on stage and put ourselves on stage...... It takes over our lives! 

Twitter Fiction!

1) Once upon a time, in a not so far away land – Actually it’s in Winnipeg, Manitoba…

2) And rather close to the present time – It’s Emma Alison Woof’s birthday.

3) For her birthday, her parents got Emma a beautiful golden retriever pup.  Her parents even let her name it herself –

4) So she named him “Rover”. She brought Rover up to her room to get him settled in.

5) Then she went back downstairs for dinner.

6) While Emma was at dinner, Tom, the bully came in through the window and said to Rover, “Puppy, puppy com to me”. 

7)Rover, not knowing any better ran to Tom.

8) When Emma came back up to her room after dinner to check in on Rover, she found that Rover was GONE!

9) As soon as they mentioned the puppy Emma burst into tears.

10) That night Emma had a strange dream about Rover.  She saw him standing wearing boots and a hat.  The weird thing was that he was standing like a person.

11) The next day Emma’s friends came running up to her asking if she had found Rover yet.  She said no and started to cry.

12) Tom sees Emma crying and confesses that he stole Rover.

13) He says that he will give her back Rover if she can complete three tasks. 

14) The tasks were to serve as Tom’s servant for a day, to find where Tom had hidden Rover and to make Rover wear boots and a hat!

15) Emma served as Tom’s servant for a day so task #1 was completed. 

16) Then Emma thought about where Rover could be and figured out that Tom had hidden Rover in his bedroom.

17) The last task was to make Rover wear boots and a hat which made Emma think of her dream.

18) So she put a hat and boots on Rover and held him up in a standing position.

19) Tom said, “You completed the three tasks, so now you may have Rover back.”

20) Emma and her “Pup in Boots” lived happily ever after – or until Tom next attempt to steal Rover.

MPDF

My Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival starts today and it creates a bittersweet feeling.  This means that it will be the second last time I am performing my dances.

My Puppy

Last night while watching tv i heard a big thud i looked around and my dog had fallen down the stairs..... i laughed really hard...... probably not the nicest thing to do.

Fargo Results!

My dance competition in Fargo this weekend went amazingly well! I could not have been happier with the results of the weekend.  As well as doing well at the comeptition this weekend I also had time to go shopping.  I got lots of cute new clothes and shoes and other stuff................ I spent a lot more money then I was planning on spending.  I think I have a bit of a shopping problem... HELP!!!!!

Books!

Today I started reading The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe.  This book is my favourite book so I decided to re-read it yet again...... I also think I need to get a new copy of it because mine is falling apart.  I chose to re-read this so that i would have a good book to read this weekend while I am in the car driving for long hours.

Fargooooooo!!!!!!

This weekend i am off to Fargo to compete in a dance competition there this weekend.. We are driving there in our car so I need to find some books and music to entertain me on the long drive.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Grad Dress

I was able to bring my grad home my grad dress today!!! I am so excited it is making things seem so much more real!

Fashion Show

last night was our fashion show and it went amazingly well everything went as planned.  As a performer I had tons of fun performing on the stage, as a choreographer for the show I was a little stressed about how it would go. Apparently I had nothing to fear about it.

The first comment I left was on Lochlan's blog.  I commented on his post about his tattoo.  I chose to comment on this post because my sister and I are going to get matching tattoos once I am 18.  I commented saying that I like how he was brave enough to get his tattoo somewhere that lots of people will see it.

I also commented on Stephanie`s blog.  I commented on her post about travelling.  Growing up in a military family had its ups and downs. Newspaper Blackout Poetry

I named my poems Long Term Effects. The first poem talks about a person who has been sexually abused by her father. The next poem is an older person talking about losing her mind. The last poem is just short it is the person stating that her reaction is not a viable scenario.

Weekends? What are those?

The other day I got asked what I do on the weekends.  The truth is I don't do anything other than go to dance all day and work at my church.  On Fridays I teach for two and a half hours then I go home and sleep because I am tired from teaching 2-6 year olds.  On Saturdays I am at dance at 8:45 till 3:45.  Although if I am being honest I don't get home till after 5 most Saturdays.  When I get home on Saturdays I eat dinner and make sure my lesson plans are ready for Sunday School the next morning.  Sundays I get up early and I either serve at my church at 8:30 or I finish getting ready to teach Sunday School.  At 10 on Sunday mornings I am at church and my students are starting to arrive for class.  I then spend the morning teaching kids about the bible.  After church is done I either go back to dance or go home and do homework.  Most weekends i go home quickly and then i go to dance.  Sunday nights are spent washing dirty dance gear and doing homework.

Reading and Writing response #5

Reading:

On Friday I forgot my book at home so i spent the class reading the Life in 5 Seconds book.  This book was a great way to fully experience what the Life in 5 Seconds pictures are all about.  Within the book there are lots of really fun and obvious plot lines.  There are also some plot lines that are more challenging to determine.  This book was a real brain worker in a different way than I am normally used to.  The pictures that they creators use sometimes make the plot line very easy to determine but there are others that I found rather hard to determine.  When I was reading the book I tried to figure out all of the different plot lines before i looked at what there actually were.  I was right most of the time.  This book was able to give me another point of view on some of the worlds biggest political surprises/ issues as some of them were depicted in 5 second plot lines.  One that I found stuck with me was the one of Barack Obama's run for US President.

Writing:

Recently we finished working on newspaper blackout poetry.  I found that this style of writing was fun and different.  The style of writing was also very challenging for me.  I found it hard to chose what i wanted to say with only limited word choice.  One unique thing about this style of writing was that you really have to think about how you are going to say what you want to say.  You might go into the style of writing with an idea of what you are going to do but then you realize that you don't have the words that you need so you really have to get creative with your work.  I am definitely going to keep using this from of writing because it is a challenge for me.  I really enjoyed working with the newspaper blackout poetry a lot because it made me realize that i am more creative then I really think I am.

Spring Break!

For spring break this year I decided that I wanted to go away.  So I chose to go to Prince Edward Island for spring break to visit my Aunt and Uncle that live there.  My Aunt and Uncle live in a little community named Hunter River.  There house sit on three acres of land with large gardens and large field space.  Although since I went in March there was still snow on the ground there.

I spent a week and a half on the Island and as usual when my time there was done i did not want to leave.  During my week and a half I went to the beach lots and did some shopping but most importantly I was able to just spend time with friends and family.

When I arrived I was greeted at the airport by my Auntie M (yes that is actually her name, and no she has nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz).  When she saw me she told me that My Uncle Eric was at home babysitting their new dog Gizmo.  I hurried to get my bags so that we could begin the 30 minute drive from Charlottetown to Hunter River.

Upon arriving at the house i was greeted by a large black dog named Gizmo. Little did I know that this dog would soon become just as special to me as my own dog.

I spent the next two days sleeping in and going to the beach so that Gizmo could go for a run.  Although when we went to the beach we had to wear heavy coats and heavy boots because the beach was very cold due to the wind coming off of the Atlantic Ocean.  The first few days we went to the beach you could not get to the water due to the big piles of snow along the shore.  In the following week we spent most of our time preparing for all the events of Easter.  Both my Aunt and Uncle are church ministers so they had to prepare for all of the church services that go along with the Easter weekend.

While I was away I spent the majority of my time just relaxing and hanging out with my family and friends.  Its hard to believe that its only been a week since I left. It feels like it has been much longer.  One thing i know for sure is that I can't wait to go back next time.

Reading and Writing Response #4

Six Word Memoirs:

I found the six word memoir assignment pretty challenging because it is very hard to say what you want using only six words.  When I first looked at the six word memoir assignment I thought it would be pretty easy.. I mean how hard can it be to add six words to a picture right? I was so wrong.  The six word memoir assignment taught me a lot about micro writing.  Even though micro writing is shorter then normal writing it is just as difficult if not harder.  My big surprise with the six word memoir project was how difficult it was for me.  I have always loved writing and I also have always love photography so I assumed it would be easy for me to bring these two passions together to create something new.  I learnt that i was a very elaborate thinker.  when i have to actually count my words it is very hard for me to limit myself to just six words.  So far in this Course i have learnt a lot about myself as a writer.  This course has also really opened me up to new forms of writing that i might not have considered to do on my own.

Blogging Field trip:

When we were doing our blogging field trip i was only able to comment on a few peoples blogs.  When I started doing the blog visits i started from the bottom and worked my way up our class list.  I really didn't have any specific order to what blogs i chose to look at.  Once i was on the blog I read all of the posts that person had posted on their blog.  On some of the blogs i just posted on the first or last post on their blog depending on the order that I read that persons blog in.  One blog that I really enjoy reading is Lochlan's blog.  I enjoy his blog because he makes a lot of posts.  I often check his blog when I have nothing to do and it always provides good reading material.  On some of the blogs I read I chose to post comments on posts that really stuck with me.  This post might not have been the first post or the last post but it was a post that really left me thinking about what was posted or about something of that nature in my own life.

Reading Reflection:

Lately i have been a very bad reader.  I have been spending a large amount of time travelling non-stop for the past few weeks.  this factor has ,meant that I have not had any time for reading.  I am still reading the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.  This book is an amazing book. I really miss the time i used to spend reading it. I would still recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good book to read.  When I am reading I use the questions/ comments/ predictions method.  Using this method of reading has really allowed me to take in more of the book.  This method is also cause me to really think more about what I am reading.  In the post when i was reading I might have just left something that I didn't understand alone but now I am really thinking about the stuff I don't understand.  This factor is leaving me with a greater understanding of the book overall.

My Future

Our last memoir topic was my future. I chose to write about the car accident i was in a year ago.  Although this event happened in my past it has drastically changed my future.  With everything I went through I now have a new understanding and a new outlook on life.  With this new outlook a lot of things changed.  I was finally able to let go of things that were hurting me as well as it gave me new motivation to work harder and to prove people who say "I can't" wrong.

For this memoir I chose to put a period in the middle so that there is a pause between the two parts.  Adding this pause makes it more of a thoughtful statement rather than a harsh point.

My Past

Our seventh memoir topic was my past.  for this topic we could write anything about one event or a general memoir about our past.. I chose to include my mom and my sister in my memoir about my past because they were both very big parts of my past.  My family has not always had the easiest time getting to where we are now.  We had a lot of problems with my dad going away for work for long periods of time.  Eventually my parents got divorced.  It was by no means an easy divorce.  Even though we have had a very difficult time in the past we have learnt to grow from it and because of it we are stronger today.

I chose to put a period after the first two words of the memoir because it adds a pause to the memoir which makes it seem like I am stopping to think of how to properly describe our past.

Confessions

Our next memoir topic was confessions.  This memoir was a place where we could unload our secret confessions and not be judges for it.  The memoir I wrote for it is completely true.  I find it very hard to trust people right away.  Some people because of this say that I am being distant or rude but in reality I am just protecting myself from being hurt again.

I chose to blur the edges of this picture because it adds more of a hallow and empty feeling to the picture.  For punctuation I chose to just simply put a period at the end of the memoir because there wasn't a underlying note to this memoir that needed to be pointed out with other punctuation.

Family

Our fifth memoir category was family. I chose to write about my dog because he has always been there for me. He plays nurse when I am sick and he makes a awesome cuddle buddy at night. I chose this picture of him because it shows how cute he is.

I edited this picture by adding a sepia filter to make the picture look older.  I chose to separate my memoir with a comma because it makes the second half seem like it was a thought that was being added on afterwards.  This punctuation I feel proves a point. Having the period at the end after the comma makes it feel more final and sure of itself.  

Me

Our fourth topic is me. For this topic we had to write a six word memoir about ourselves. I chose this memoir because I find it completely true. Dance has been the one stable thing in my life. I have been through lots of stuff in my life. Dance has always been there to save me from going home and facing it. The picture in the background of this memoir was taken by my good friend Chantal. I had her come and spend the day with me at my dance studio and take pictures of me. This picture is my favourite and I feel like it goes really well with the memoir.

For this picture I cropped it to make it a closer view as well as i added a filter to make it look like the picture was taken back stage at a performance. For this memoir I felt like punctuation was not needed during it.  So I chose to just put a period at the end so that the memoir doesn't just drift off at the end.

Growing up

Another one of our six word memoir categories was growing up. For this category I chose to write about the people that I dance with. I have been dancing with most of these girls for years. Although last year was my first year dancing with Mark we were able to form a friendship very quickly.

For this photo I did not do any editing myself. I took this picture from my sisters Instagram account. As she had posted this picture already she had edited it herself. I chose to separate the memoir with a question mark because it makes it seem like I am correcting a statement. We are more than just team mates. We truly are a family.

Love

Our second subject was love. I wrote this memoir telling exactly how I feel about love. I truly am afraid that I will never find love. I have seen happy relationships fall apart super easily. Seeing this happen has made me very wary of love.

In this photo I chose to have the focal point of the picture be the word love all over the paper.  For the punctuation of this memoir I chose not to have anything at the end or during the memoir because not having  anything leaves it more as a drifting thought rather than a statement or direct point.

Hate

Our first memoir subject was hate. I chose to write this memoir because no matter how 'pretty' something is it always has a 'thorn'. I have learnt from personal experience that nothing is perfect, there is always something that will go wrong.

For this picture I chose to save my punctuation until the end because i feel that it made more of an impact with having a period at the end of the memoir.  I also chose to add a filter to this picture to make the flowers more blurred and also make them look older.  This effect also has an impact on the memoir as it makes the picture look like it is something from a memory.

My Night

Tonight I am spending my night making all of my packing lists and costume lists for my upcoming trip to Minneapolis.  When I travel I am very organised I print everything off and put one copy in my dance binder and one copy in my dance notebook.  I always make sure I have the competition schedule (colour coded to make life easier), the bus schedule so I know what time my teams bus is leaving at, and full detailed packing lists and costume lists.  Having all of this information takes many hours to prepare and organise.  I am constantly updating and revising all of my lists and such so that they are the most recent copies (although to save trees I don't print them out until the final copy is done).

My Life

Today I was thinking about everything I have going on for the next few weeks.  One main thing I have coming up is my yearly dance trip.  On March 14 I am going to Minneapolis for 5 days to go to a dance competition. While I am in Minneapolis I will have the amazing opportunity to do some workshops with some of the dance companies in Minneapolis.  The one workshop i am most excited for is the afternoon I get  to spend at Circus Juventas.  While I am there I will get to train on many different elements.  This is not the first time I have been there to do workshops.  In fact it will be my second time going.  The last time I was there I was able to do training on the aerial silk as well as the aerial hoop.

Life in 5 Seconds

With our assignment I learnt that visual story telling is more complicated than it looks.  When creating a visual storyline there is a lot more to think about than one thinks.  Thy symbols affect the visual because you have to consider which symbols will properly reflect your storyline.  Depth is one element that can greatly affect your visual storyline.  It plays a major role because you can use it to show subplot within your main storyline.

Visual story telling could be applied to our six work memoir assignment because it can help to explain our memoirs more.  Visual story telling could be the background image for our six word memoirs.  These background images can further explain the meaning of the memoirs to people who are observing them because it will show more of what our memoir is talking about.

Here is the story line that I chose to create for my storyline. Can you guess what movie it is?
